STUDIO NOTES / PLANNING

Do you need a website, a web app, or both?

Start with what people need to do, then choose the smallest useful system.

A website explains and connects

If visitors need to understand your services, see your work and contact you, a well-structured website is often enough. Clear information and an easy next step matter more than a long feature list.

An application supports a recurring task

Accounts, permissions, changing records, calculations, file workflows and dashboards usually point toward an application. The important question is how the software fits the work people repeat.

Start with a useful first release

List the main user, the task, and the successful result. Define what the first version must do, what can wait, and how you will check that the result works. A website and a private application can also be separate parts of the same system.
